Reading nooks: how to create spaces to stop, read and disconnect

You don't need a lot of space or an extra room. Sometimes all it takes is a good armchair, well-chosen lighting, and a quiet corner.

In an increasingly fast-paced world, the home has become a refuge. And within it, reading nooks represent a way to return to the essentials: to stop, sit down, and enjoy time without rushing.

It's not just about reading a book. It's about creating a space that invites you to disconnect, to feel comfortable and slow down, even if it's just for ten minutes a day.

A corner designed for relaxing

The best reading nooks aren't necessarily the biggest, but rather the best designed. A comfortable armchair, a bench with cushions, or even a chaise lounge can work if they're well complemented.

The key lies in the feeling of seclusion : soft textiles, calming colors and an arrangement that invites you to stay.

well balanced natural and artificial light

Whenever possible, placing the corner near a window is a good idea. Natural light brings a sense of well-being and makes the space feel more alive during the day.

At night, a good floor lamp, an adjustable wall light, or warm indirect lighting are essential. Not only for comfortable reading, but also for creating ambiance.

Create a reading nook within the bedroom

The bedroom can be more than just a place to sleep. Incorporating a small reading nook brings calm and transforms the room into a more lived-in and personal space.

A comfortable armchair, a lightweight chaise lounge, or an upholstered seat placed against the wall or near the bed can create an intimate space for reading, unwinding, or simply sitting for a few minutes before the end of the day. Combined with soft lighting and pleasant textiles, the overall effect is harmonious without being overwhelming.

These types of nooks work especially well in spacious or well-proportioned bedrooms, and reinforce the idea that rest doesn't just begin when the light goes out, but much earlier, when the space invites you to slow down.

Details that make the difference

It's the little details that turn a seat into a real reading nook: a blanket within reach, a side table to put a book or a cup on, a candle lit at sunset.

They are simple gestures, but they transform the daily experience and make the house feel different.

At Pino & Jacaranda, we believe in spaces designed for everyday well-being. Corners that don't seek to impress, but to accompany.

Because reading, resting, or simply being in silence is also part of living well in a house.
