How to make a small bedroom look elegant

Ideas, tricks and real tips to maximize space and achieve a small bedroom that is stylish, balanced and practical.

If you have a small bedroom, you don't have to sacrifice style.

Furnishing a small bedroom can be a challenge, especially when deciding which items are essential. Can you do without a dresser? What if there isn't room for two side tables? Whether it's a master bedroom, a guest room, or a children's room, it's possible to create a cozy and well-designed environment regardless of the square footage.

After working with all kinds of spaces, we've learned that there's no single solution, but there are some key tricks. Here are our top recommendations.

A well-integrated bedside table

In small bedrooms, opting for lighter bedside tables or those raised on legs helps to keep the room visually uncluttered. In bedrooms with two beds, a single bedside table shared between both can be more functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Another practical idea is to place a pouf at the foot of the bed , which can be used as a support, seat or even as an improvised side table.

An asymmetrical bedside table

If there isn't enough space on both sides of the bed, don't force symmetry. In small bedrooms, opting for a single, larger bedside table or choosing an asymmetrical approach that gives personality to the space works very well.

In one of our projects in Marbella, we opted to use a single large side table to provide balance without overwhelming the room.

Utilize wall space

A small bedroom can be much more interesting if you take advantage of the walls as decorative and functional elements. Artwork, mirrors, shelves, or decorative panels help to visually elevate the space.

We love incorporating vertical panels to direct the gaze upwards and give the feeling of greater height. Lightweight pieces in white, linen, or light wood tones also work very well.

Creative lighting

Ambient lighting is essential to visually enlarge a small bedroom. If you don't have room for table lamps, opt for wall lights or even pendant lights suspended above the bedside tables.

Add mirrors

Mirrors are perfect allies for visually expanding a small bedroom. They reflect light, multiply space, and add a sophisticated decorative touch.

In our Elviria Hills project, we placed a full-length mirror against the wall to make the most of the space.

Conclusion: Less furniture, more intention

A small bedroom can be just as elegant as a large one if you choose each piece with intention. The key is to free up floor space, make use of the walls, take care of the light, and add only the furniture you're really going to use.

✅ Quick checklist for small bedrooms

  1. Check the essentials: a comfortable bed, sufficient storage, and one or two well-chosen bedside tables.
  2. Raise the gaze: use panels, art, or decorative oars to give visual height.
  3. Free up tabletop space: opt for wall lights or pendant lights if you don't have room for table lamps.
  4. Add a mirror: full-length or on a dresser to enhance light and depth.
  5. Pay attention to the color palette: warm neutrals, light woods and light textiles so that the bedroom can breathe.
